YMMV / The Lure

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The whole movie has a Lynch feel to it, but the scene in which Divine Fur ("Boskie Futro") revives the family who seem to have killed each other after getting rid of the sisters is definitely the most surreal.
  • Fridge Logic: The song they sing while being revived is titled "Glucose", while Divine Fur hooks them up to IVs. Glucose IV is one of the best way to get out of a hang-over and in a very short time.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The movie turned into a minor sensation in Japan, out of all places (the similarities with Japanese mermaid folklore likely helped) and much to the surprise of the director. It's also a rare case when vastly postponed release (by almost two years) ended up working in favor of the movie, since it could piggyback on The Shape of Water marketing, as if being some sort of mockbuster, despite being completely unrelated.
  • Misaimed Marketing: As admitted by the company responsible for promotion in Poland, they had no clue how to handle such Genre Roulette and settled for a fantasy-theme Romantic Comedy. This in turn set up completely unrealistic expectations from audiences and translated into just terrible reception. To the point people complained about being tricked into watching completely different movie than advertised.
