  • Harsher in Hindsight :
    • The novel mentions battles between Greece and the Ottoman Empire. Yet, due to the Ottoman Empire suffering a defeat because of World War I and it being dissolved by Turkish President Ataturk, the book itself has become outdated because of this.
    • A disease that ends up being a global pandemic, and whose appearance is linked to a war. Sounds familliar?
  • Vindicated by History: Initially, The Last Man did not sit well with many people due to its heavy and controversial themes and sombre tone. More than a century after its publication, the book began to receive more notice and praise due to how it tackles said themes and how the theme of loneliness is emotionally powerful for many people.
