YMMV / The Crystal Gems Say be Anti-Racist

Go To

  • Broken Base: People are mixed on whether these shorts are too Anvilicious regarding their subject matter or if they are well-executed shorts that offer good insight on social matters in the modern era.
  • Fridge Brilliance: The PSA about white revisionist history stars Pearl, whose skin is literally white. Why her specifically? Pearl has been discriminated against herself, since Pearls were slaves in Homeworld. Also, Pearl has been shown to be obsessed with getting all the facts about history right, such as in "Historical Friction", so it makes sense that Pearl would be angry at the US education system for teaching kids about Thomas Edison and not Lewis Latimer, essentially favoring white people over black people.
  • Heartwarming Moments: The "Be an Ally" short, where the Crystal Gems express their concerns to Greg about the effectiveness of the shorts and Greg replies that fighting against racism is still a worthwhile cause even if it's not a problem affecting the Gems.
  • Unexpected Character: Most people were expecting the final short to center on Steven, not Greg.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: A few people aren't sure if the child with a blue hoodie and brown hair is a boy or girl. Then again, they could be nonbinary.
