  • Demonic Spiders: Lava demons. After you defeat Rattle Hag they will respawn continuously from every volcano on the map, and unlike skeletons they are a lot harder to defeat; even the weakest variant has 200 health. They're easier to deal with once you get combo fire upgrades (allowing you to oneshot them at the highest level), but are still quite dangerous if you don't pay attention. To make matters worse, in the postgame, volcanoes will start spawning lava titans, the Mini Bosses fought just before the Final Boss; they're Boss in Mook Clothing with over 1500 health and attacks that are near-impossible to avoid.
  • Goddamned Bats: The skeleton enemies. They aren't much trouble to put down, especially after the early game, but they'll respawn endlessly until you can destroy the graves that spawn them. Putting them down often feels like a chore and a distraction from the puzzles, which are the main draw of the game.
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • The combat in general is often seen as a low point of the game, as it's fairly simplistic and often trivial after the early game. Despite that, you'll have to deal with annoying enemies constantly harrying you while you're trying to solve puzzles.
    • Shooting a projectile through an energy field will turn it the same color (and in the case of electricity, electrify it). This is vital to solving many puzzles, but the game never formally explains this to you, leading to a lot of players getting stuck and having an "I didn't know I could do that" moment when they learn of it.
  • That One Puzzle: The method for defeating the Final Boss. Most of the puzzle is fairly straightforward, using mechanics you've grown familiar with throughout the game. However, a crucial step of the puzzle requires you to color yourself green with the meatbag's farts. This is an "I didn't know I could do that" moment for many players, as it's the only point in the game where you're expected to color something without using a paint pipe. There's also the fact that farts are gas, not liquid, making it unintuitive to infer that it can be used the same way as paint.
