  • Crosses the Line Twice: Nicky walks in on his father and aunt having sex on the ping pong table while using a racket as an, ah, accessory. The three of them echange a long, awkward look. Then, Nicky grabs hold of the (still swaying) lamp's cord and turns off the light.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Bud Cooper was cited as a highlight even in negative reviews of the film, thanks to Oscar Isaac's memorably slimy performance.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Julianne Moore plays a rather ditzy and amoralnote  50's housewife. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, she plays a shrewd and utterly ruthless drug lord who acts like an affable 50's housewife.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Goes both ways: while both of the film's plots could've been very compelling, neither one is given the right amount of focus to make them truly compelling.
  • The Woobie: Nicky. Oh poor, sweet Nicky. In a film full of racism, fraud, and murder, Nicky suffers the most psychological punishment out of any of the characters over a period of a few weeks, and he's still just a child. First, his mother is murdered and it later seems that his father arranged it, and Gardner proceeds to gaslight him whenever he brings it up. Then his mother's killers come back and murder his aunt, his uncle and try to kill him as well. Finally, his own father threatens to shoot him if he doesn't keep his mouth shut about his crimes, at which point the kid is reduced to a crying wreck. Fortunately, Gardner accidentally poisons himself with a sandwich, and come morning the poor boy is so broken by everything that's happened that all he can think to do is go outside and quietly play catch with the neighbour's kid.
