YMMV / Starzinger

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The opening theme (used undubbed in Sweden) is one of the most powerful anime openings ever, since by a children's choir and Isao Sasaki himself.
  • Friendly Fandoms: Swedish fans of Starzinger tend to also be fans of other anime titles released in Sweden during the 80s since they were all dubbed by the same company, most notably Hello! Sandybell (which uses the exact same voice cast as Starzinger) and Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin. These three titles are sometimes cited as a trifecta of sorts among older Swedish anime fans, not dissimilar to how 00s' shounen fans had "The Big Three".
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Starzinger is fairly obscure in most of the world... except in Sweden, where it has reached cult status thanks to being one of the first animes to be dubbed and released on home video over there. The show's influence on Swedish anime fans can easily be compared to what Cowboy Bebop did for American anime fans.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Journey to the West being retold with aliens and cyborgs thrown into the mix? Yeah, that would never catch on. Dragon Ball was released six years after Starzinger.
