• Accidental Nightmare Fuel: Happy the Clown's upbeat personality is offset by his jarring appearance.
  Mike Nelson: He's agreeable for a wide-awake nightmare.
• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Kirk looking at the camera and hoarsely whispering "yay" at the camera while making the most awkward smile imaginable, completely without prompt or context. Even the guys at RiffTrax were at a loss for words!
  • The holographic video game that Kirk and Brian play. And it's never mentioned again.
• Creepy Awesome: Happy the Clown can be this, simply because he means so well.
• Padding: Half of the film is nothing but pointless "antics" by Brian and Kirk.
• Nausea Fuel: Lugos looks more like something you'd find in a toilet than an alien menace.
• Retroactive Recognition: Darran Norris would have his career saved a few years later in Fairly OddParents.
• The Scrappy: Brian is a spoiled brat, Kirk is an obnoxious dork and Happy is just aggravating.
  Bill Corbett: This is pro-vasectomy propaganda, isn't it?
• So Bad, It's Good: Just barely.
• Special Effects Failure: All over the place.
• What the Hell, Costuming Department?:
  • Lugos can only be described as a goggle-eyed turd wearing a tablecloth for a cloak.
  • Lugos' robot soldiers are just guys in medieval costumes with huge grey fiberglass domes over their head - each with a giant black triangle to see through. Even in a kid's movie it doesn't look remotely threatening.
