YMMV / Spybot: The Nightfall Incident

Go To

  • Demonic Spiders: Attack Dogs and Warden++ are some of the deadliest enemies you can find. The former is a Lightning Bruiser that can quickly regenerate lost sectors, while the latter is a decently fast Mighty Glacier that can eliminate most of your units in a single hit. Dealing with them is almost always a cooperative effort, as a single program struggles to delete them without the first turn advantage.
  • Difficulty Spike: Transitioning from security level 2 to 3 involves fighting through two very tough levels almost back-to-back: the first holds the item you need to upgrade your access, and the second guards the level 3 Warez node. If you try to ignore the latter, you'll find yourself outmatched as third-tier enemy programs are almost too strong for your second-tier programs to handle.
  • Goddamned Bats:
    • Guard Pups and Guard Dogs are fast enough to outrace most of your program lineup, but they don't hit very hard and can't take a lot of punishment. They do like to attack in groups, though.
    • Sensors, Radars and Sonars are stationary, fragile turrets, but they have a very long range to harass your units with. An array of multiple turrets with converging lines of fire can be difficult to take down, especially since your units with the longest range are rather fragile themselves.
  • Good Bad Bugs:
    • If you move a program over a credit square and then undo its action, you keep the credits without wasted movement.
    • Bit-Men can use Zero to erase a square. If the square is occupied by a program, that program's one sector cannot be targeted. If the program also has no other sectors it's effectively invincible.
  • That One Level:
    • Lucky Monkey Bananae Systems pits you against a large army of twenty-one low-level programs, compared to your seven to eight upload spots. It's also an open area so you can't just turtle away with your Bit-Men. It's a big stumbling block for a level 2 area, even with your 2nd-tier programs. To seal the deal, this node contains the level 3 security codes, so you have to figure your way through it.
    • Lucky Monkey Toy Properties pits you against two Attack Dogs and a Firewall, with only two upload points. The Attack Dogs are frighteningly fast and have a high maximum capacity, and you can get overwhelmed easily if your two programs can't gang up and pick it off. To add insult to injury, this node must be completed to access the level 3 Warez node, which has programs that would make the level easier to complete.
    • PED Treasury Funds gives you six upload spots, all clustered in the center of the map, and you're surrounded by twenty-eight first-tier enemy programs. Such an overwhelming numbers advantage with what little maneuvering space you have is difficult to overcome in straight combat.
