YMMV / Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san

Go To

  • Adorkable: Aside from being earnest, knowledgeable, and hardworking, Honda's interactions with customers are pure gold. Just look at her awkward reaction to the handsome old man. When Honda's approached by a group of girls asking about what Honda thinks the hottest BL is, Honda's jaw drops.
  • Awesome Music:
    • The opening theme "ISBN~Inner Sound & book’s Narrative~" by TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND is chaos-incarnate and it's somehow awesome because of it. Add in Soma Saito's vocals and you got quite the banger.
    • "Book-end, Happy-end." is a soothing synth-pop song that perfectly captures the optimism Honda retains throughout her journeys in the bookstore despite the odds.
  • Values Resonance: The antics of Honda and her former fellow coworkers and her bosses/acquaintances in the retail industry in Japan resonates with anyone who has managed/worked in various aspects of the retail industry.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: The real author Honda is actually a woman. Apart from a couple scenes that mention it (such as a foreign otaku saying that he'll carry his own huge pile of manga because it's too heavy for a woman) and the official manga translation which came out after the anime, you wouldn't be able to tell. After all, she just draws herself a skeleton. And in the anime, Honda has a male voice actor.
