  • Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game: A consistent point of praise for the game its the surprisingly intriguing and unique plot. A consistent point of damnation for the game is the poorly-designed interface and gameplay issues. There’s a good reason why players would rather experience it as a pre-recorded playthrough instead.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: One of the major criticisms of the game regardless of version. Even without the guide, despite the game’s difficulty.
  • Narm: The prologue in the original version suffers from this as it opens up. Carl’s overacting tiredness as he suffers ruins any sense of dread or intrigue it was supposed to create.
  • Retroactive Recognition: The developer, Millennium Interactive, would later reform into Guerrilla Cambridge. Some developers here would later develop the MediEvil series.
  • Polished Port: The PlayStation remake. Following the extremely negative reception the original version received, the developers made an effort to redraw the graphics and re-record the voice acting. As a result, fans (not universally) consider this version the definitive release for the visual upgrades, improved atmosphere and performances, alongside better sound (The opening scene had no sounds in the original release, the remake adds a lot more to the soundtrack). The gameplay issues are still there, but the positives make up for it.
