YMMV / Serge Gainsbourg

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: "Evguenie Sokolov". Almost three minutes of fart sounds over a reggae instrumental, with no lyrics.
  • Posthumous Popularity Potential: Gainsbourg received his load of criticisms and mockery for his inebriated antics and disheveled looks as "Gainsbarre" in The '80s and was pretty much considered as washed up by that time, but after his death he's been near-universally lauded as one of the biggest names ever of French chanson.
  • Sampled Up: For example, a few songs from Histoire de Melody Nelson were sampled by people as distinct as De La Soul, David Holmes or Pop Will Eat Itself. Outside of that, "Bonnie and Clyde" was sampled by MC Solaar (check "Nouveau Western") and "Initials B.B." was sampled by Black Grape.
