• Ensemble Dark Horse: Dustin, the opossum living in your dresser, has been popular due to being an adorable lil' critter you can check on everyday. Bonus points if you have Talk to Animals, because you can have conversations with him. He's a nice break from all the horror that happens. His mom makes an appearance too.
• Harsher in Hindsight: In Chapter 1, Stella says that she'd be ecstatic to find ghosts are real, even if she's never found any evidence for them. In Chapter 3, her first meeting with an actual ghost leaves her traumatized — even more so than the previous nights' events. In Chapter 4, both of these become harsher, as it's revealed her obsession with ghosts is due to her trying desperately to find the souls of her dead parents..
• Incest Yay Shipping: So many players of the game want to be able to romance Tabitha that the developers have had to outright say they're not going to add a romance route for her on multiple occasions, even explicitly banning such talk within their Discord server.
  • To a lesser extent, some people have shipped Reese with his mom.
• Tear Jerker:
  • A game filled with scenarios that can end very badly depending on the choices you make and the traits you have, it's easy to see where this might come in.
  • At the end of episode 3, Stella is taking her possession by the ghost very poorly, and she leaves, acting unusually melancholic. In episode 4, she's gone for most of the day while her friends search around town for her. If Gretchen is still alive, she'll lead the player to where Stella is - namely, the scene of the accident that claimed her parents' lives. Stella reveals that she went to that place in the hopes of seeing her parents' ghosts.
  • If you go out of your way to tank your relationship with Tabitha, in episode four, she'll bitterly comment that she can't believe she ever hoped you might be friends.
• Unpopular Popular Character: Tabitha is, in universe, generally seen with pity at best and contempt at worst, mostly being treated as everyone's asshole boss. Out of universe, her Defrosting Ice Queen Jerk with a Heart of Gold nature makes her one of the most popular characters in the game, with requests to romance her (despite her being your cousin) so prevalent the official discord had to blacklist them.
