  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • The Sheriff: Was he truly blaming Salazar for the massacre or was he simply trying to pin blame on him for something far, far more sinister that was happening behind the scenes?
    • Did the government of Arizona really decide to sentence Salazar to death because they truly believed he murdered the townspeople or were they just looking for a scapegoat to hide the truly horrors that happened?
    • Is Olivares the only one who knows that there is a government coverup about the existence of whatever it is that massacred the town, or is he just paranoid and making mountains out of molehills? None of the things he says is corroborated by anyone else, after all.
  • Awesome Music: The score, no doubt a given considering the makers of it are Zoviet France.
  • Cult Classic: The film became this among the found footage audience. While it didn't garner much attention in its release date, the parallels to real life events, the subversion of jump scares, and the impressive take on zombie lore made it respectful despite it not given a huge theatrical release. Being praised by no other than Trevor Henderson also helped in the long run.
  • Epileptic Trees: Whatever attacked Sangre de Cristo is up for debate among viewers: While there's no doubt that they are zombies, what they can truly be is its own can of worms.
    • Whether or not the Sheriff and Arizona truly know what attacked the town is also an argument among the audience.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Oh god yes, because it so deserves it. Enough to get its own page, even.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: Enigmatically framed Zombie Apocalypse aside, most of the film is about a loner who had just survived a life-or-death situation, only to be raked through the coals by a biased media and racist police who would rather condemn an innocent man than admit to arresting the wrong guy. Even with overwhelming evidence of his innocence, the court of public opinion had already found him guilty for being an asocial illegal immigrant with a camera and that's enough to keep him on death-row.
  • Tear Jerker: Now has its own page.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: While the film is still very much liked, some arguments towards it is with the exception of Salazar and a few others, everyone else are deplorable shitheads. Gus Greer and the Sheriff (his character interpretation aside) constantly invoke Insane Troll Logic that Salazar committed the massacre despite it being impossible for him to do so with the townspeople outside of Sangre de Cristo just being walking stereotypes of racist caricatures. Ross, the indie reporter, while being someone who argues that Salazar couldn't be the murderer, immediately turns the situation into a racial motivated attack.
  • The Woobie:
    • Salzar, poor guy kept suffering and suffering, even after dying when he becomes a zombie.
    • Grace Putnam, considering her final moments were being killed by "zombies".
