YMMV / Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Deathmask's new characterization. Is it a nice Character Development for him following quite the Humiliation Conga which had forced him to admit his weakness as a person and as a fighter and also falls in line with his characterization in the Hades saga, or is he totally Out of Character considering that he was originally the most evil and unsympathetic of the Gold Saints?
  • Fridge Brilliance: During the final battle against Loki the first ones to attack are Milo and Aphrodite... Whose attacks have poisonous effects and cause excruciating pain, weakening the enemy far more than anyone else could have done and softening him for the coming beatdown with otherwise more powerful attacks. As usual, Athena's Saints play dirty.
  • Narm: Watching Andreas getting his eye pierced by an arrow? Awesome. Seeing it left just a small scar and eye still fully functional? This.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Angry Deathmask. The target of his wrath bragged that Deathmask could not afford to kill him... And by the time the Gold Saint is finished with him, he would have much preferred he did just that.
    • Aphrodite demonstrating why in the classic series Saga described him as the most terrifying of the Gold Saints.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: While Deathmask's been subject to debate (see above), Aphrodite has been more well received due to him pulling a Maes Hughes and discovering the purpose behind Yggdrasil before anyone else and being instrumental in the Golds' survival.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Camus Adaptational Jerkass and his reasons for siding with the enemy and betraying his friends weren't well received by fans, not to mention the fact that he caused Shura's defeat at the time.
  • Tear Jerker: The Farewell between Aioria and Lifya. Complete with a heartbreaking Dying Declaration of Love.
