YMMV / Sabretooth

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Anthony's upset reactions to the sabertooth's kills are clearly at least partially because of the financial liability and disgrace they are exposing him to. However, there are some ambiguous moments where he seems upset on a deeper level.
  • Cliché Storm: The Corrupt Corporate Executive who paid for it, the Mad Scientist who protects her 'baby' until it kills her, dumb horny generic teen campers who get killed one by one, only the heroes have a working survival instinct... Not a lot of originality in this film. Still, if anything it often is regarded as just middle of the road rather than horrible thanks to this.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Corrupt Corporate Executive with limited relevance or not, Anthony is one of the better-liked characters. Fans enjoy his comical performance, how he makes some pragmatic suggestions that Cathrine overrules, and how he briefly shows some genuine distress over the deaths.
    • Romantic False Lead Lola has her fans for her decent chemistry with Jason, friendly personality, and how she adapts to camping fairly well.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Many fans think that Trent and Lola's interactions are cuter and better-acted than his Old Flame romance with Casey. Their ship even has a youtube video.
  • He's Just Hiding:
    • Lola. She's still screaming while being carried away by the creature, her body is never shown, and a previous victim of the beast was found badly mauled but still alive.
    • Leon isn't clawed anywhere near the heart and his body isn't mauled further or drenched with enough blood to indicate he bled out, leaving it possible that he may have just been unconscious when his body is seen.
  • Sequelitis: Sabretooth is usually seen as one of the better or at least just decent Sy-Fy original movies. Attack of the Sabretooh is often regarded as worse on account of even dumber characters and reliance on CGI as opposed to the decent puppet and models used for the bulk of the first film.
  • Signature Scene: Leon fighting the tiger with dual-wielding knives is a well-remembered moment.
  • Special Effects Failure: While the effects are not as bad as they could be for a Syfy movie, the CGI model and the animatronic model look nothing like one another. Still the animatronic and puppet are decent when they're used and can be favorably compared with the Smilodon from Walking with Beasts.
