YMMV / Rodan

Go To

  • Older Than They Think: The prologue has mine workers complain about the heat, specifically blaming Global Warming.
  • Tear Jerker: The deaths of both Rodans. This surprisingly tearjerking scene was actually caused by an accident with the puppets—the two Rodans were supposed to slowly drown in the lava, but one of the wires on the puppets snapped. The director, Eiji Tsuburaya, kept the cameras rolling while the wire operator ad libbed the death scene and the puppeteer tried to pull his puppet out from the conflagaration—resulting in a touching scene of Rodan trying to escape before deciding to join his mate in death.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The film's effects were staggering for its time, setting a new high water mark for the kaiju genre and some of them, most notably the sequence where Rodan completely levels Fukuoka (in the Japanese version), Sasebo (in the American version) with sonic booms, are even impressive to this day.
