• Alternative Character Interpretation: It's been outright stated many a time in the series that Reg is selfish and self-serving, but this behavior could likely stem from being poor and literally without food. Many episodes play out on the basis that Reg is insanely hungry and would do anything for food, and he was likely driven into his gruff, greedy personality from all the famine getting to him.
  • Rube could be seen as incredibly inconsiderate to his brother as well, as he always denies any money or food as a reward for his (and occasionally Reg's) heroism, thus keeping his brother starving endlessly. Rube is never shown to be starving unlike Reg, which may either come from ignorance or his super powers, so basically Rube never considers his brother's needs no matter how much he puts them forward and would prefer to practice Honor Before Reason instead.
• Jerkass Woobie: Poor, poor Reg. He's selfish and short-tempered a lot of the time, but the sheer amount of terrible things that happen to him far overpower the bad things he does and turn him into this, as well as some episodes even playing with his emotions and having him make a sacrifice to prevent a lethal or dangerous tragedy from occurring only for it to turn out that said tragedy was actually something arbitrarily small. Even in the Christmas Special he doesn't catch a break at the end, despite returning all the gifts to their rightful owners. In some episodes he's a full-on woobie.
• Ugly Cute: Reg and Rube themselves. Cockroaches are among the most reviled insects, but they still manage to look cute.
