  • Anti-Climax Boss:
    • The second fight against Berkut. He's just as powerful as he was during his first fight—but by this point in the game, you'll have gotten so many upgrades that you can beat him in under a minute. And if you have a giant plasma club, you can beat him in under thirty seconds.
    • Taras Volkov. All you have to do is figure out how to bring down his forcefield. Once you do, he just stays still and lets you attack him since he's too deformed to defend himself. You literally cannot lose unless you refuse to attack him and allow his guards to kill you.
  • Complete Monster: General Taras Volkov is the leader of the Irbis Unit and Vasily's former employer. After partnering himself with Alta-Tek, Volkov was given free rein to use their resources as he saw fit. Volkov and his soldiers frequently razed small villages and towns, where they would massacre the population or kidnap them and take them back to Alta-Tek's laboratories so they could be turned into mutated weapons or enhanced cybernetic soldiers. Upon learning that Vasily is hiding out at a Buddhist temple, Volkov sent the Irbis Unit to slaughter most of the monks there. Those who survived were scheduled to be converted into cyborgs—with several of them having already undergone the procedure. Once Vasily finally confronts Volkov after killing most of his mercenaries, Volkov shows no concern over all the men he's lost, and simply tries to force Vasily to admit that he enjoys killing people.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Volkov crosses it when it's revealed that many of the monks he kidnapped were turned into mindless cybernetic soldiers that attack Vasily without question.
  • Player Punch: When Vasily is in Volkov's stronghold, he discovers that several of the monks he was trying to save were already turned into hostile cyborgs against their will. You have to ruthlessly slaughter them all in order to progress in the game.
