YMMV / Red Dwarf: The Promised Land

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Rodon being The Cat's brother comes out of nowhere, nobody acts that surprised, isn't mentioned again and doesn't make sense when you remember earlier episodes (See Fridge Logic).
  • Older Than They Think: Rimmer and other holograms were supposed to appear in black and white from the start of the series but the special effects were too expensive. Rimmer and other holograms also appeared as a greyscale hologram in the Red Dwarf Smegazine which had been released in the early 1990s.
  • Tear Dryer: Rimmer is both forced to be connected to an Achilles' Power Cord and to go into low-power mode. After this, he is reminded by The Cat that he is no longer really Rimmer and that he is just a computer that functions according to what the real Rimmer would have done. Rimmer undergoes a Heroic BSoD as a result of this and (also believing that nobody likes him and he is just a waste of space), decides to run down his power source. However, Lister is able to convince Rimmer that they do indeed need him, which leads to him plugging himself back in.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: We finally meet other members of the Cat's species, but he barely interacts with any of them, not even attempting to find himself a lady Cat after all these years. Could be seen as a case of Character Development on his part.
