YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S9 E22 "Growing Up is Hard to Do"

Go To

  • Alternate Aesop Interpretation: Make sure everyone is on board with all details of a plan instead of assuming they are. The entire conflict could have been avoided had the CMC gotten on the same page about who they were going to ask to be their chaperone before the day of the fair.
  • Anvilicious: "Being Big Is All It Takes" is far from subtle in its message that being an adult isn't an excuse to do anything you want, and it doesn't make you automatically right about everything.
  • Fanfic Fuel:
    • Unless Biscuit is simply freaking out, wild swamp ponies are a thing.
    • The story of the wish-granting flower, a flower that not even Starswirl could figure out. Not only that, the positioning of its petals imply that it has been used three times before. Who could have used them and what wish did it grant? Are there more of these things?
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Before this episode, fan art of grown-up CMC has been circulating around since the show's premiere. This fan animation takes the cake.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Mrs. Cake was seen at the fair when Biscuit was entering Bloofy in the contest. The CMC could have asked her to accompany them since they were heading to the same place.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • The only regular cast members to see the CMCs in their adult forms are Twilight and Fluttershy — their families, and especially their sisters, have no interactions with them.
    • When searching for a chaperone, the CMCs never asked Pinkie Pie, Zecora, Cheerilee, Scootaloo's aunts or Mrs. Cake. Considering that the last example is seen at the fair, she could have been their chaperone.
  • Unexpected Character: The creepy station master from "Sounds of Silence" makes a comeback.
