• Viewer Gender Confusion: Makoto is a girl, despite having a boyish hairstyle. Subverted for Rin later after her introduction; Sakura (and the readers) are first introduced to Rin as a girl wearing a dress with Girlish Pigtails, without any indication of Rin's biological gender. Tsuyoshi eventually reveals that "Rin is a guy" while Rin considers herself to be female.
• The Woobie: Poor Suzuki is often at the Butt-Monkey of Sakura's overprotective brothers, as they are keenly aware of Suzuki's crush on Sakura. This is always Played for Laughs. See Butt-Monkey on the main page.
