- Americans Hate Tingle: In his native U.K., Bolan is a rock icon, on the level of The Beatles, David Bowie or Freddie Mercury. In the U.S., T. Rex is best remembered as "the band that did that 'Bang A Gong' song."
- Epic Riff: "Jeepster"; "Get It On (Bang A Gong)"; "20th Century Boy"
- Harsher in Hindsight: A man who constantly referenced cars in his lyrics, and who never learned to drive out of fear that he might die in a car crash, ultimately died in a car crash.
- Interestingly, he gained his fear of cars when his idol, Eddie Cochran (whose guitar he used to carry to Cochran's car), died in a crash.
- The last single released before his death, "Celebrate Summer" had the line "Summer is heaven in 77". He died 2 weeks after that summer ended.
- Ho Yay: By the truckload.
- "20th Century Boy" closes with the line: "20th century boy, I wanna be your toy".
- "Left Handed Luke" contains the line: "If you had some silver, mister, how much would you pay for me?"
- Bolan's pre-T-Rex single "Hippy Gumbo" was about a man who had broken Bolan's heart. Judging from the lyrics, he didn't take it particularly well.
- "Beltane Walk" opens with rather suggestive lyrics: "Trucking down by the roadside, met a man with a starhide. He said boy, wouldn't you like to look?".
- "Main Man" and "Telegram Sam" from The Slider also qualify
- Signature Song: "Get It On (Bang a Gong)".
