YMMV / Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile

Go To

  • Awesome Moments: Josh trying to help Lyle overcome his stage fright in Times Square by singing "Take a Look At Us Now", and it succeeds, with Lyle proudly bursting into song. Also doubles as a Heartwarming Moment.
  • Awesome Music: Pretty much all of the songs, helped by Shawn Mendes' singing voice. Special mention goes to "Take a Look at Us Now" and "Top of the World".
  • Critical Dissonance: The movie received positive reviews from critics while audiences saw it as So Okay, It's Average.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Sure, Lyle is free to stay with the Primms as their pet, but Hector still has intent to make money off Lyle's singing abilities. And since Lyle is an anthropomorphic animal, the potential conflict between what Lyle wants and what Hector wants is still there. And the reluctant look Lyle gave when Hector talked about the upcoming performances says just about as much.
  • Memetic Mutation: Young Lyle singing "La la la la la" to a flabbergasted Hector has risen to notoriety on social media as a non sequitur, sometimes with edits dubbing what he sings.
  • So Okay, It's Average: Despite receiving positive reviews from critics, this is the general response from audiences. Decent acting and catchy musical numbers aside, it's nothing too special. It's too kiddie at best and mediocre at worst. To quote the critics' consensus on Rotten Tomatoes:
Parents may not be engulfed but Lyle, Lyle Crocodile is bound to make most children smile.
  • Tear Jerker: When Lyle is sent to the zoo he sings the song "Carried Away", where he sadly reminiscences about the good times he had with the Primms and Hector, and how all good things must come to an end.
