  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Arguably Prue, who takes the brunt of the fallout of her and Mr. Raxberry's relationship because she "loves" him, so she insists she instigated the entire thing. The teacher believes her, Prue is expelled and starts working in her dad's bookshop while Mr. Raxberry gets off scot-free for basically grooming an incredibly sheltered teenage girl. They never went further than kissing, but Mr. Raxberry let Prue carry on babysitting despite being aware of her crush on him, told her he loved her and allowed her take the fall to save his career and marriage. Not to mention Prue is relentlessly bullied (which is partly her own fault thanks to her haughty attitude, but she really doesn't know better - her only role models was her Extreme Doormat mother or domineering, abrasive father, so it's no surprise she picked the former to emulate) and Toby begins hanging around the family's bookshop despite Prue's repeated attempts to tell him she's not interested him, and at the end of the book Toby also takes no responsibility or punishment for the fact his Dogged Nice Guy behaviour only made Prue's school experience worse and he shows no signs of leaving her alone because Grace and their mother take a liking to Toby. Her other teachers at the school (especially Mrs. Godfrey) show No Sympathy for Prue's unusual family situation and are very critical of her for no good reason. So Prue's education gets completely ruined and none of the people responsible (Mr. Raxberry, Toby, Rita, Mrs. Godfrey, etc) get any comeuppance for their behaviour.
    • To be fair, Prue does get a place at Kingtown High at the end, and it's suggested that things will get better for her there, as she found the head's attitude towards her reassuring, and her dad is slightly happier about her going there since he attended the same school.
