YMMV / Life of Boris

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • Collaborated with DJ Blyatman and created SLAV KING a great piece of Hard Bass with pretty catchy lyrics.
    • Also collaborated with XS Project to create another awesome Hard Bass piece: RED ROUBLES with a special guest appearance by Anatoli
    • The music that plays in his videos by uamee, Gopnik McBlyat and DJ Blyatman is pretty damn awesome too.
  • Do Not Do This Cool Thing: Boris often warns his audience not to emulate some of his more err..."unsafe", methods of cooking, which makes sense, considering he doesn't exactly use the most orthodox of utensils. Unless you know what you're doing, then go ahead!
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Despite not speaking much and rarely making appearances, Boris' cousin Anatoli is pretty well-liked for his strange antics with some of Boris' fan mails asking for more appearances from Anatoli.
    • Boris' cat Artyom has become much beloved by his fans. Mostly because he's absolutely adorable.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: A humorous example, ever since the release of his proper cheese making video, some commentors will say that everything Boris did in the old video never happened.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: In one video Boris was surprised to find out that his videos are extremely popular in the United States. In the Russian Crab Salad video, he displays a list of viewer demographics; turns out Americans represented a whopping 22% of his viewer base (Russians, in contrast, only represented 1.9%; a figure shared with Romanians and Australians). He also has a small but sizable following in Germany and the UK, as both countries represented 4.9%.
  • Older Than They Think: Some fans falsely credit Boris for popularizing the "cheeki breeki" meme but it was already a well-established joke within the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fandom, in which he is part of.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Cheeki Breeki Hardbass 2, a music video that utilizes an unfinished track by the creator of the Cheeki Breeki Hardbass Anthem video Apartje who had passed away the previous year.
    • A more minor example is whenever Boris seriously talks about demonetization. While he manages to remain composed and positive when discussing the issue, it is fairly clear that he's frustrated, especially by the fact that despite having as many views as other popular Youtubers in the United States, he only gets a fraction of the revenue that they make due to Youtube's laws for out-of-country users.
    • all is lost. A statement made in response due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Hearing the usually cheerful and proudly Slavic host being not only sad, but downright ashamed of his heritage, is heartbreaking.
    • Thank you for watching. After months of being screwed by the algorithm and Youtube cutting his income down even further, Boris has decided to hang up his ushanka and stop consistently producing videos on the Life of Boris channel. Even if he did leave on a hopeful note by stating that he may still occasionally post some videos if he finds the time, most comments view it as the End of an Age.
    • this used to be fun is another vent piece by Boris talking about the isolation of modern Youtube compared to how vibrant the community used to be. Boris' tone doesn't even sound defeated or sad, just neutral because to him, there is no audience anymore. He's making videos because he wants to for an audience of no-one. The fact that he flat out refuses to say goodbye, ending the video when he feels it's over and completely abandoning his "stay cheeki breeki" sign-off is heartrending to say the least.
