• Alternate Character Interpretation:
  • Jay: a traumatized soldier forced into doing something horrible for his family who gradually turns into a Knight Templar or an evil Blood Knight whose ongoing cruelty to his family and refusal to do anything about it makes them all miserable and leads to their deaths?
  • Shel: a vicious and unlikeable Gold Digger turned Lady Macbeth or a desperate woman trapped in a marriage that increasingly borders on abusive to a serial murderer with severe anger issues?
  • Fiona: does she genuinely feel some remorse for Sammy and Shel (and maybe even Gal's) deaths at the end, or is she just happy the plan worked?
  • Also, was her ongoing attention to Sammy and Shel solely to prepare them for the sacrifice, or did she actually have another plan in mind to potentially save them?
  • Why does Shel laugh at the end? Has she been Driven to Madness by being killed, and her own son dying, at her husband's hands? Is it because she knows that the cult have got Jay? Is she tormenting Jay because this is what he wanted, or because a Fate Worse than Death lies in store for him? Also, what does Shel know about the cult, and Fiona's manipulations, in general?
• Awesome Moments: Gal mowing down an entire hallway full of deranged cultists after the M.P. job goes tits up. Similarly, Shel going into Mama Bear mode and coldly gunning down several cultists in the climax.
• Catharsis Factor: Subverted with Jay's brutal murder of the librarian. Even though the victim is a horrific pedophile, his peaceful acceptance of the situation is offputting enough to drain the viewer of any satisfaction at his death.
