YMMV / Ivanhoe: The King's Knight

Go To

  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Prince John is banished in the end but he will become King of England upon Richard's death and his reign will be the beginning of the end of the Angevin Empire.
  • Evil Is Cool: Bois-Guilbert. He just has this presence to him that lets you know that he is the more sinister of his duo that he forms with Front-de-Boeuf, who to his credit is pretty cool himself but one of the primary antagonists of the original novel is naturally going to be cooler than a secondary antagonist.
  • Older Than They Think:
    • Some have criticized the fantasy elements that occasionally appear in this show. Little do they know that since Ivanhoe is a small part of the much larger Robin Hood legend, these things aren't that out of place. One of Robin Hood's lesser known enemies, Mother Maudlin, is a shape-shifting witch for instance.
    • This isn't the first adaptation to have Bois-Guilbert unaffiliated with the Knights-Templar while at the same time featuring the organization. The 1975 Animated Adaptation previously made such a portrayal, only with the Templars not being referred to by name. To add on to this, Bois-Guilbert's lack of interest in Rebecca be it romantic or lustful also comes this adaptation. Even the secret passages of Torquilstone come from this and was later used in the 1986 adaptation.
