Interstate '76:

  • Suspiciously Similar Song: "Never Get Outta The Car", which is pretty much just "Get The Funk Out Ma Face" by The Brothers Johnson with the verse key shifted up a tone.
  • Technology Marches On: Interstate '76 is a very unfortunate casualty of this. The original 1997/1998 release is notoriously difficult to get running on modern operating systems. So, you would think the GOG.com Updated Re-release would make the game fully playable. Alas, while the GOG version is certainly installable/runnable on modern operating systems, it fails to address the gameplay and graphics problems that playing the game on a modern CPU presents; specifically, modern versions of DirectX introduce a ton of new graphical glitches, and thanks to there being no framerate cap in the game's code, modern CPU's run it in what is essentially turbo mode... which bizarrely, makes the game run slower, causing NPCs in the campaign to drive at 10mph while their wheels violently spaz out, making it Unintentionally Unwinnable. Thus, the game has justifiably picked up a reputation for being one of the hardest early-Windows games to get running on modern OS's. Fortunately, after more than two decades, fans have finally found ways to make the game run properly on modern OS's - specifically, by manually limiting the framerate to 20 FPS.
