• Alternate Aesop Interpretation: The film depicts the good aspects of Forgiveness. However, considering how many perpetrators cause pain to their victims by testifying just to get amnesty, a good argument can be made that the movie is showing how apologies made without sincerity can keep individuals from getting closure even as the stories accompanying those apologies enlighten society about horrifying events.
• Missing Trailer Scene: The trailer has a Deleted Scene line where Langston says that he doesn't need to go to another continent to write a story about white cops killing black people.
• Romantic Plot Tumor: Langston and Anna's adulterous romance takes away from the more interesting hearings, and they seem more like friends than lovers in other scenes.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The Truth and Reconciliation hearings shown contain details about plenty of white-on-black violence and one black-on-white murder. However, no one ever even mentions any of the instances where the Secret Police proved willing to murder white anti-Apartheid activists. This could have showcased the danger liberals like Anna faced from people like her own brother and given her and Langston an interesting discussion topic.
