YMMV / Habenyan Chooses A Bride For Ritsuka

Go To

  • Broken Base:
    • The treatment of various characters, in particular those with yandere tendencies, is rather divisive. Several of the comics have faced criticism for going for "low hanging fruit" in terms of comedy or dropping the ball in terms of characterization rather than going for more meaningful character analysis or bits like other comics. Opponents of said criticism see no issue in their portrayals due to it being a gag comic first and foremost, and that not everyone sees a need for those characters to be anything more than one-note. The divide can be partly attributed to whether one is a fan of said characters or not.
    • The suggestion it's a Foregone Conclusion that Mash will be the chosen bride. Putting aside ones feelings on Mash or the other Servants, detractors dislike how blatant Habetrot is with her attempt at making sure it's Mash, and that it renders the entire series premise, Habetrot helping Ritsuka choose a bride, pointless when she's practically chosen for him. Supporters however feel it's not only in character for Habetrot, since she's a Shipper on Deck in canon too, but that just because Habetrot says she's gonna be the chosen bride, doesn't mean it is a Foregone Conclusion, and that the ending can easily be something different. The latter is true, as Ritsuka chose Tamamo-no-Mae, surprising Habetrot. He even says while Mash is great, there are still other potential brides that outclasses her if Tamamo wasn't there. The updated final day comic also applies since Tamamo is with the author's version of Ritsuka, the comic's version picks Caster Artoria, making Habetrot surprised (and annoyed).
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Detractors of certain comics surrounding yandere characters point out that they are ultimately the most formulaic of the comics, typically consisting of Ritsuka and Habenyan biting off more than they can chew, another Servant stepping in to either detain or attack the topic Servant, and Ritsuka claiming he saw this coming.
  • Squick: Part Two of Baobhan Sith shows that her night with Ritsuka involved him getting horrifically tortured, and ended with his groin visibly bleeding, which Asclepius needs to heal.
