• Aluminum Christmas Trees: Some viewers weren't aware that Essence Fest is a real event that occurs in New Orleans every year.
• Award Snub: A lot of people felt that Tiffany Haddish deserved Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for her role in the film.
• Catharsis Factor: After seeing the turmoil Ryan put herself through in dealing with Stewart's infidelity, it felt amazing to hear her tell him to "sit [his] ass down" and finally let go of the facade, especially when telling her truth gained her more than maintaining the lie.
• Fridge Brilliance: Dina's reaction when she learns Stewart is cheating on Ryan is quite explosive, but why? Early in the film when we see the Flossy Posse at Ryan's wedding, Dina is squealing "Yeah you got him, girl!" as the most excited for their union. Perhaps Dina set the couple up or was shipping them hard and she is responding out of disappointment?
• Misaimed Fandom: As far as Dina’s character goes, on message boards and comment sections on YouTube, there would be detractors of her character who would constructively criticize her for her immature and hedonistic behavior. Said detractors are accused of being “haters” for their opinion. This is ignoring the fact that Dina’s friends believe that she gets too carried away with her obnoxious behavior (and she was confronted about it towards the climax). Even Dina’s former boss tells her to grow up, with said attitude having a role in her firing. Regardless, some fans of the film still believe that Dina's humor and popularity is supposed to condone said behavior.
• Nightmare Fuel: The hallucination scenes in the bar after the women drink the absinthe can be unsettling.
• The Woobie: Ryan is constantly cheated on by her husband, and always attempts to hide behind a facade. She was even revealed to be infertile. You just want to give her a hug.
