YMMV / Futurama S 4 E 8 Crimes Of The Hot

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Morbo losing it when Linda misunderstands how windmills function. It comes out of nowhere and it's never clarified why this pissed him off so much. It still proved to be so funny it became a meme.
  • Genius Bonus: Al Gore gets introduced as "the man who invented the environment." Viewers with good memories will recall the American election of 2000, when Gore was mocked for claiming that he invented the internet. note
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Fry's joke about it being so hot that he poured McDonald's coffee on his lap is a reference to the infamous Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants hot coffee case, at the time widely considered a Frivolous Lawsuit. However, this understanding was, as reported by The New York Times in 2010, the result of severe misreporting by the media, stoked by McDonald's and others interested in severely weakening plaintiff's rights, that made Stella Liebeck into someone who wanted to shake-down a successful, multi-million dollar company by pouring hot coffee on herself, in full knowledge of the consequences, instead of the woman who suffered for life because of severe, third-degree injuries to her groin and thighs due to McDonald's repeatedly-comdemned-in-court business decision to overheat the coffee without so much as a danger sign warning her about the fact.note
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY! GOOD NIGHT!"
    • "NO ONE INSULTS THE TURTLES!"
    • "Thus solving the crisis once and for all." "But..." "ONCE AND FOR ALL!"
    • "I apologize for nothing!"
