YMMV / Forbidden (2010)

Go To

  • Broken Base: A memorable and original attempt to reconstruct the Brother–Sister Incest plot in modern Western literature? Or Pandering to the Base complete with clichés, which is just playing off of non-original tropes from anime with Little Sister Heroine?
  • Cliché Storm: Audience Surrogate Nice Girl learns that her Chick Magnet older brother is in love with her after he is jealous of her to Romantic False Lead boyfriend, after which they become Star-Crossed Lovers with the expected Downer Ending.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The novel can become much more tragic and sad if you think about the fact that Lochan will die, and his posthumous reputation will be that he allegedly raped his own younger sister and committed suicide in prison because of the tortures of conscience.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: Given the many genre tropes played in characteristic situations, this book can be considered as a Japanese imouto-title, turned into a Western-style book.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: Because of the above reasons, the book may seem like a ripoff of imouto-titles for people from the anime community. The fact that the author is half-Japanese only adds to the confusion.
  • Write What You Know: Lochan's social anxiety is directly based on the author's own experiences. Also averted though—she's been clear that the incest is not based on her own experiences.
