- Moe: With her glasses, somewhat frumpy clothes (at least in comparison to Yi Lin's), braids, and quiet, studious demeanor, Lulu meets a lot of the checkpoints for moe cuteness but has the drive and emotional strength to keep from falling into "moeblob" territory.
- Tough Act to Follow: Various reviews have noted that CoMix Wave Films's last major production, Your Name, casts a long shadow over this film and that none of the three directors quite manage to recapture the magic Makoto Shinkai brought to the latter.
