  • Fridge Brilliance: In Arc 3, Loki is the only person willing to call out Cap on her lack of a plan. Because he's the only one there who didn't grow up with the legend of Captain America. Plus, she's suffering by comparison to Thor and Odin.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • This fic's version of SHIVs are called "Rovers". In XCOM 2, Chief Shen has a personal Gremlin drone named "ROV-R".
    • As of the end of Arc 2, the fic predicted XCOM being steamrollered and becoming a resistance organization. As the author pointed out, he'd been dropping hints to that effect since the start of the Arc, well before XCOM 2 was even announced.
    • Tony comes up with a Sonic Stunner instead of canon's electric one, based on the sound weapon Stane used to paralyze him in his first film. Preview footage for Captain America: Civil War shows Tony briefly using what appears to be some kind of sonic weapon to stun Bucky.
    • During Chapter 11, Tony wonders how they're going to assault an alien base if it's underwater, or on the moon. While the former is a reference to Terror from the Deep, XCOM 2's climax was also underwater.
    • Chapter 28 came out shortly after the Long War 2 mod for XCOM 2. It involves operatives sneaking into a facility to gain access to secure enemy data storage, just like that mod. The writer claimed that he had finished the chapter a month earlier, before the mod was even announced. The first chapter of Arc 3 also had an XCOM operative infiltrating a target facility to soften it up.
    • The Author notes mention that Pena is played by Michael Mando. Mando later got an actual MCU role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The Vulture and his team acquiring and repurposing alien and other advanced technology is a major element of the film.
    • In Arc 3, we meet this fic's version of the Sentinels, who are The Men in Black SHIELD agent cyborgs on Extremis instead of giant robots. In The Gifted (2017), the Sentinel Division are a government agency that deals with mutants.
    • One of the troopers is a mixed-race South African Boer/Nigerian woman named Sophie Okoye. One of Black Panther's closest friends and allies is a woman named Okoye. The head of Wakanda's armed forces and intel, in fact. And in Arc 3, Sophie Okoye does a spot of secret-agenting.
    • In Chapter 30, the heroes have a virtual remote meeting in a magical Asgardian "metaspace". Almost four and a half years before Facebook - sorry, "Meta" - popularized the idea of the "metaverse" to do pretty much the same thing.
    • The fic's climax ended up strongly resembling Avengers: Endgame. The heroes attempting to undo the villain's nefarious plans? Check. A surprise attack on the heroes' base? Check. A combined force of basically every hero in the story so far launching an attack on the Big Bad or their forces? Check. Big Bad gone nuts from the loss of their race facing off against Cap and Iron Man? Check. Oh, and Tony Stark dies saving the day. That's in there too.
