• Complete Monster: The evil Nightfall Was Once a Man named Shinichi who was spurned by his crush, Miranda, in favor of Stan "The Man" Lee. Shinichi pledged himself to the Counterforce, the embodiment of all wrong with the world, and then vowed to ruin Miranda's life. Nightfall waited until Miranda was pregnant with twins Jimmy and Billy and then tried to kill them all in one fell swoop; although he failed to kill her boys, he captured Miranda's soul and kept her in perpetual agony for the next eighteen years. Nightfall murders Jimmy and Billy's Sensei, has hordes of his minions attack entire crowds of people and kill dozens of innocents, and ultimately plans to destroy all civilization. Boundlessly evil, Nightfall commits all these atrocities for nothing but his petty grudge over Miranda's rejection.
• Franchise Original Sin: Before the cartoon and film became known as prime examples of Narm, it was the comic that introduced many of the concepts that were so derided in those adaptations, like a supernatural source for the Lee brother's abilities, Toyetic outfits and vehicles, and a complete absence of any familiar characters and settings from the games, save a villain loosely based on the Mysterious Warrior from Double Dragon II. Of course, neither of them made Stan Lee Billy and Jimmy’s dad.
• Moral Event Horizon: Nightfall crosses the line when he reveals that he not only murdered the mother of the Lee brothers, but he also subjected her to an And I Must Scream fate where he trapped her soul in a crystal ball for 18 years.
• Spiritual Successor: A few reviewers noted the comic actually works better as an Iron Fist series than a Double Dragon one.
