YMMV / Critical Role: Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting

Go To

  • Broken Base: The reveal in Tal'Dorei Reborn that Pike and Scanlan divorced; notably, there is a divide between fans who like the ship. Some are upset by what they see as a Happy Ending Override five years after the campaign ended, arguing that it runs contrary to the characters' arcs and that this never would have been done to a pairing like Percy and Vex. Others see it as perfectly valid, arguing that marriage isn't the only way two people can love each other and it's okay if Pike and Scanlan were not suited for it. Meanwhile, some fans who dislike the ship outright are happy, believing that the pairing never should have happened in the first place.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Gwendolyn de Rolo, Percy and Vex's youngest daughter, is only mentioned a handful of times in Reborn. She is a red tiefling who is described as "the sweetest de Rolo" and is seen cuddling a stuffed owlbear and holding her father's hand, and fans immediately began to gush over her.
  • Epileptic Trees:
    • The portrait of the de Rolo family in Reborn depicts Percy and Vex's eldest daughter Vesper with white hair; the artist, Jessica Scaites, was given the description but not an explanation. Because Percy's own white hair is not genetic and it's implied in the "Search for Bob" one-shot that Vex was pregnant with Vesper during or just after the Vecna arc, fans have speculated that Vesper had actually already been conceived when Vex received Pelor's blessing, and therefore Vesper is an aasimar.
    • Similarly, some fans believe Gwendolyn de Rolo is a tiefling because of Percy's dealings with Orthax, while others believe she is a tiefling because of the contract with Ipkesh that Percy signed in the Nine Hells (she has red skin and black hair with gray tips, which Ipkesh also has).
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Tal'Dorei Reborn is perhaps best known in the fandom for the revelations about where the members of Vox Machina ended up by the time of Critical Role's Campaign 2.
