YMMV / Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness

Go To

  • The Scrappy: Abe. From his constant complaining, constant cowardice and even going as far as chewing out the other heroes when they were in a bad spot during the middle act, it's safe to say he doesn't have a lot of fans.
  • The Woobie: All three of the main characters to one extent or another. They grew up with self-esteem issues because of physical features they regarded as detrimental, but the film's Aesop has them learning to accept themselves as they are and using their "defects" to escape danger.
    • True to his name, Chickenhare is a half-chicken, half-hare. Although his kindly adoptive father King Peter loves him, everyone from the local bullies to his own Evil Uncle regards him as a "freak". This leads him to go to drastic lengths for acceptance, from wearing clothing that conceals his chicken parts to attempting to join the prestigious Royal Adventure Society. His quest to find the Hamster of Darkness (which kicks off the main story) is yet another attempt to prove himself.
    • Meg's Smelly Skunk tendencies drove everyone around her away. When she was little, she bathed twice a day in an attempt to get friends. She even went so far as to put a cork on her scent glands; that didn't work either. When she used her musk to save her classmates from a vault they were all trapped in, they still didn't accept her; however, by then it didn't matter, because she knew she'd done the right thing and became more self-confident as a result.
    • Abe is a tortoise who was born without a shell; the one he wears during the movie was inherited from his uncle. He's so embarrassed by this that he doesn't admit it until well into the story.
