YMMV / Charmed S2E9 Ms. Hellfire

Go To

  • Best Known for the Fanservice: This episode is fondly remembered for Prue dressing up in Ms Hellfire's sexy black leather outfits, as well as her slow motion walk in the club.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Bane Jessup is Prue's most preferred love interest, despite only appearing in two episodes.
  • Franchise Original Sin: Here is one of many Fanservice episodes that Charmed would later be infamous for. Prue impersonating the titular hitwoman is just an Excuse Plot to get Shannen Doherty into sexy outfits. The increased sexualization of the Halliwells arguably began here, but the episode is beloved thanks to the actress's well-documented love of fashion and her statements that she usually picked out her own wardrobe, and just for how fun it is.
  • Money-Making Shot: The sequence of Piper freezing Hellfire's bullets in mid-air ended up in the opening credits because of how aptly it demonstrates her powers.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Prue gets Brainwashed and Crazy into thinking Piper and Phoebe are demons impersonating her sisters, and Barbas is able to get her to attack them thinking they're after the real ones. And since Prue isn't possessed or anything that registers her as 'evil', Piper's freezing power won't work on her. This only makes up a few minutes of conflict in the last act, when it could have carried an entire episode or even arc on its own.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Prue donning black leather and showing off her midriff, Bane and DJ's neon shirts and the fact that Ms Hellfire only communicated through email makes this one of the most glaringly 90s episodes in the series.
