YMMV / Charles Mingus

Go To

  • Archive Panic: As with Miles Davis, he released a lot of albums. He was a sideman on 34 albums, a leader on 51, and he has 4 posthumous albums, which brings the total up 89. This does not include any standalone singles, EPs, Epitaph, the Mingus Big Band, the Mingus Dynasty, or albums by other artists that exclusively cover his work.
  • Awesome Music: Oh, so much. Mingus isn't regarded as one of the best jazz bassists and bandleaders for no reason. Highlights of his output include Mingus Ah Um, The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, Let My Children Hear Music (Mingus' personal pick for his best album), and Epitaph, but there's lots, lots more (see Archive Panic above).
  • Posthumous Popularity Potential: Although he was a respected musician during his lifetime, his reputation as a genius really didn't take hold until after his death.
  • Signature Song: "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat".
