YMMV / Cantinflas

Go To

  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Due to the time period and country, there's many of them in the film:
    • The whole scene when Cantinflas is doing Blackface, which was acceptable in Mexico and many other Western countries in the 1930s.
    • The part when Cantinflas finds out Valentina was infertile. In Mexico, especially in that time period, a real man could only be considered as such if he could sire a child with his wife. He is heartbroken that he cannot do so with Valentina. He later decides to cheat on herher later on, albeit the results of this are never shown in the film, partly because that bastard child is one of the producers of the film, in this case, Mario Moreno Ivanova, the adopted son of Cantinflas.
    • Todd saying that Cantinflas should travel to the U.S. via a flying donkey, not to mention offering Cantinflas the role of an Apache chief in the film, He rejects the offer, not only because he's not the protagonist, but also, at least implied, because he found the role very offensive. Other than that, Todd treats Cantinflas like he would any other actor, regardless of his nationality.
