YMMV / Avengers Disassembled

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Jack of Hearts and Scott Lang really didn't deserve to die that way.
  • Broken Base: With this story, Nothing Is the Same Anymore and Bendis began a series of heavy changes to the Avengers. Those changes were highly controversial: Some people liked them, because they removed the Avengers from the eternal shadow of the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises and placed them at the center of the Marvel Universe. Other people hated the changes, as the characterization of Wanda had little in common with the beloved Kurt Busiek era.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: This story was partly designed to clear out some of the supporting Avengers characters to make room for more popular characters. The story killed Vision, Hawkeye and Scott Lang, and made Scarlet Witch the bad guy. A decade later, all four of these characters would become heavily featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making them more popular and famous than some of the characters who replaced them.
  • Memetic Mutation: Hawkeye screaming "Not like this!! Not like this!!" just prior to his death became a meme for a while.
  • Never Live It Down:
    • Besides the invoked cases, do we need to be reminded, once again, that the Scarlet Witch was an "important" member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants? 50 years ago, blackmailed into the group, left it at the first chance she got (after 2 or 3 adventures), but as they say, "Once an evil mutant..."
    • Hawkeye's Stupid Sacrifice has become one for him. After he comes back, a lot of his friends bring up how stupid it was of him to do that. Even Deadpool mocks him indirectly for it in his own story.
  • Tear Jerker: The surviving members of the Avengers remembering pivotal moments of their history together before disbanding.
