• Awesome Music: The bagpipes rendition of the titular song that closes the film (together with the main cast list) is a very emotional tune, resonating with any and every audience that hears it.
• Ho Yay: It is really easy to read the relationship between Pitt and Wilberforce as an one-sided love-story. Note that Pitt was probably gay in real life.
• One-Scene Wonder: Albert Finney as Wilberforce's pastor John Newton, a penitent former slave trader turned abolitionist, who actually wrote the song Amazing Freaking Grace.
