For the video game:

  • Anticlimax Boss: Furcifume is probably the easiest Boss Battle you'll encounter in the game. He only ever fights solo, so you don't have to wade through an entire team first, and though he hits hard, his moveset is extremely limited, so he's unlikely to surprise you. His main gimmick is to randomize his type with Shamouflage... which forces him to spend a turn not attacking, and actually ends up hurting him more often than not by giving you a weakness to exploit. He does have a Status-Buff Dispel, but that's his only other trick, and again forces him to spend a turn not attacking.
  • Low-Tier Letdown:
    • On the Total Chaos randomization setting, it is actually possible to recruit Furcifume into your party. He averts Redemption Demotion, but, well... he's not actually that impressive. He only learns Neutral moves, preventing him from interacting with the Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors that forms the core of the battle system, and his ability only works if he's the only Abomi on your team, making it useless most of the time.
    • You can also recruit Awakened Ioti on Total Chaos... who has the exact same problems as Furcifume, and an even less interesting movepool.
    • Zebrata with Secondary Strength (+20% damage with their secondary type) are almost always inferior to those with Primary Pride (+20% damage with their primary type). Their extremely powerful Candy Blast attack always takes on their primary type, meaning it benefits from Primary Pride but not Secondary Strength. Secondary Zebratas have no analogous benefit. This creates a bit of a Broken Aesop, as Zebratas' primary vs. secondary culture war is portrayed as petty and ridiculous, but there is an objectively right answer.
  • Narm: A lot of dialogue that's supposed to be poignant can end up sounding very silly due to procedural generation, especially since there's not a lot of variation. It's hard to take Abomis' eulogies seriously when they give the exact same one for every single teammate who dies, for instance.
  • Ugly Cute: Most Abomis who aren't just straight-up cute. Even Furcifume, as monstrous as he is, has a certain charm with his chameleon body.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Ioti is an All-Loving Hero fighting for a good cause... but her recruitment speeches always remain exactly as chipper and optimistic, even if you're a bad player who's constantly getting Abomis killed. This makes it seem like she's deliberately downplaying the danger, making her come off as weirdly callous or even manipulative.
