In Transformers: The Basics, longtime fan and commenter Chris McFeely brings a weekly(ish) upbeat video introducing a concept or character from the long and varied history of Transformers.

The series can be seen here.

The videos provide examples of:

  • April Fools' Day: Chris did an April Fool's gag where he declared the Transformers to be played out, and decided to switch the channel over to the real heroes of the transforming robot genre: The Go-Bots! He then delivered a The Basics video on the Go-Bots as thorough, detailed, informative, and entertaining as any of his Transfomers videos, which actually created a foundation for him to talk about some Transformers characters who started as Go-Bots (since Hasbro bought the Go-Bots from Tonka).
  • Author Catchphrase:
    • "Offlined by a cosmically-powered Starscream." Chris himself noted this when it came time to cover the storyline in question.
    • "The Monster Planet Unicron." Another catchphrase used by Chris to describe Unicron whenever he appears.
    • "These are the basics on X." Said after a brief overview introducing the subject of the video, to segue into an in-depth discussion of the topic.
  • Content Warnings: Posts one before his The Basics on Kiss Players, as it would be impossible to discuss this entry of the franchise without discussing some of the controversy surrounding it and why that controversy exists, and while Chris handles it with as much class as the subject matter can allow, it's still not something a parent might want to watch with their young children (and the comments indicate that many parents do watch The Basics with their kids, and many of them were grateful for the warning that this episode they should screen in advance).
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Noted in the intro to his video on the Dinobots.
Robots are cool. Dinosaurs are cool. Rebellious anti-heroes are cool. So is anything cooler than rebellious anti-hero robot dinosaurs?
