"Go get me more mitriom, and quickly!"
— Mitriam

Ruins Of Mitriom is an indie action-adventure game published by Pixel-Archipel on Steam in 2022. You control one of several characters, each with unique skills, to escort a caravan safely across a continent. You are in search of Mitriom crystals, which are used to power up your character and the caravan. This mechanic functions as a permanently-accesssible Skill Point Reset, allowing you to change things like caravan speed, defense turrets, character special moves, and more. Each crystal you find increases your power and gives you access to more and more of the continent. It is a bite-sized game meant to be completed in a single session of 30-60 minutes, but has options to adjust the experience such as random chests and permadeath.

The game includes 6 playable characters, and the game supports up to 4 player co-op:

Ruins Of Mitriom features examples of the following tropes:

  • Carry a Big Stick: Argonite fights using what appears to be a shepherd's crook.

  • Fireballs: Rubyx's main attack.

  • Loyal Animal Companion: Liamond, being a llama, is this for the caravan. Unusually, he is a fully playable character with his own skills and attacks. Basically, he's an Attack Animal for the group, but is under the direct control of a player rather than another character.

  • Magitek: The setting has both magical powers as well as steampunk-like trappings. Most apparent with the caravan itself and the various mechanical enemies around the continent. Mitriom crystals are the midway point, being magic crystals used to power technology.

  • Skill Point Reset: The core gameplay mechanic. As you explore the island, you come across crystals that allow you to change your skills on the fly. Putting your skill points into various categories is necessary to progress, allowing you to control the speed of your caravan and make other adjustments depending on the situation at hand.
