Moebius and Pucky

EFMB (Endless Forms Most Beautiful) is a very quirky Arcade Game. In the skin of the alien Moebius, you must explore multilayered levels and rescue the imps (the eponymous EFMB) while dodging the various enemies in the level. The gameplay's main particularity is its weird physics of movement. You can go up and down the layers through teleporting platforms, but also through the Wrap Around nature of the levels, making for some weird first playthroughs.

The game is also notable for having 2 versions: the 2011 ZX Spectrum original by Dave Hughes, and the 2012 PC remake by Locomalito.

Provides examples of:

  • Procedural Generation: Downplayed. The level's structure, number of EFMB to rescue and enemies stay the same, it's the aestethics and imps that change.
  • Teleportation: Each level has many platforms allowing you to teleport up or down a layer.
  • Turns Red: When you grab more than half of the level's imps, the enemies become faster.
  • Updated Re-release: Locomalito's remake adds better graphics, a second player character (Pucky), and two multiplayer modes: coop and versus.
  • Wrap Around: With a twist. "Exiting" through the left or the right will also respectively make you go up or down a layer! Mastering this dynamic is vital to progress.
