While he is supportive of Ellen and tries taking over as house-parent, he feels emasculated by the fact that his wife was chosen over him to be the face of the revival of supers. It doesn't help that she was able to stop a runaway train flawlessly while he himself wound up causing the supers going into hiding in a similar incident.
