- The author originally planned for Harold's and Cody's eliminations to be reversed, with Cody's romance plot with Sammy going to Harold instead while Leshawna would be forced to come to terms with her former romantic pursuer having moved on with someone else, but eventually went the way they did due to Codammy being a more popular ship amongst the Total Drama fanbase.
- Originally, Staci and Josee were considered to be a returnee, but the writer went with Izzy and Jo instead because he didn’t want to bring Staci back for the sake of her first boot joke gimmick and had an actual role for Izzy he wanted to write for her and felt that Jo would be a better fit than Josee to help boost Brick’s story as well.
- The author originally wanted to parody a song from Metalocalypse into "Brawl of the Wild". He changed it to a parody of "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell because of Ear Worm potential, and how bizarrely out-of-character it would've been for some of the characters to be singing in Death Metal.
