• Dueling Movies: Came out the same year as John Woo's epic, Red Cliff. Although the budget of this movie is roughly a quarter that of Red Cliff and aims more towards the indie crowd.
• Fake Nationality: Maggie Q, who is of Irish-Polish and Vietnamese descent, is cast as a Han Chinese woman. Directer Daniel Lee defended her casting, and suggested that her character is of mixed ancestry.
• Wag the Director: As Maggie Q was a vegan, she insisted on faux fur being used in production, but especially on her own character's costumes.
